Volunteer of the Year 2026

Rolling Meadows Library has been a grateful recipient of Steve’s volunteer service since 2023, following his 43 years as a dedicated RML employee. A resident of Rolling Meadows since 1968, Steve began working at the library in 1980. After retiring as RML’s Technical Services Director in 2023, he was appointed by the mayor to fill a vacancy on the library board. “The library has been like a second home for me,” Steve says. “I knew after I retired that I wanted to still be active in some way with the library. I was honored when I was chosen to serve as a member of the library board.” Steve currently serves on all of the board’s committees, is chairperson of both the Finance and Bylaws Committees, and is Library Board Treasurer. After retiring, he also volunteered his time assisting Technical Services in its transition to a new department director. Steve has always been drawn to libraries, having been a student volunteer at Carl Sandburg Junior High’s and Rolling Meadows High School’s libraries. “I enjoy reading and love to organize things,” Steve says. “And the library fit those needs.”

About Diane
Rolling Meadows Library has been a grateful recipient of Diane’s dedicated volunteer service since 2022. One of Diane‘s favorite things to do is to find books “a new home.” Six to seven days a week, she sorts and boxes book donations, and puts aside books to be reviewed for sale in the Friends’ Book Shop. Diane also helps set up and take down the Friends’ three annual book sales. She worked for ten years in Norridge School District 80, purchasing books for the learning center. Diane later worked for the Village of Norridge for 18 years. Before retiring and moving to Rolling Meadows in 2021, she volunteered for five years with the Friends of the Library in Norridge, sorting and boxing books. Diane says that as much as she helps the library, volunteering helps her. “Retiring and moving was a big change. I’m happy [volunteering] here,” she says.
