Jazz Spectrum's Summer Concert

Jazz Spectrum has performed numerous times at the library. They return with their vocal renditions of classic big band tunes made famous by the likes of Basie, Ellington, Miller and Goodman. The vocal quartet is backed by a swinging rhythm section and horn players. They have been compared to The Manhattan Transfer and also pay tribute to other vocal groups such as The Four Freshmen, The Modernaires, and Lambert, Hendricks & Ross. Ballads with rich harmonies, foot stompin' doo wop and "good-time" 50s rock n' roll round out an afternoon of exceptional entertainment.


Fruteland Jackson: History of the Blues

Electro-Fi recording artist Fruteland Jackson is an author, storyteller, and oral historian. He is a fivetime Blues Music Award Nominee and recipient of the Blues Foundation's "Keeping the Blues Alive" award. He plays traditional acoustic blues and other music from the heart. Since 1992, he has presented the award-winning "All about the Blues" series in school programs, working to bring more music education to our schools. Singing and playing acoustic guitar, Fruteland focuses on pre-war and post-war blues ranging from Robert Johnson and Big Bill Broonzy to Memphis Minnie and Elizabeth Cotton, as well as ragtime and other blues styles. His latest CD, "Good as Your Last Dollar" was nominated for a BMA in 2020 for Best Acoustic Album and Best Acoustic Artist. Join in the fun for an afternoon of marvelous music and entertaining stories about the blues, and the songs and performers who make it great.

Would you like to attend a concert of your favorite songs? Kaleen Dolan, vocalist and pianist, will perform your requests in this fun and lively show. Kaleen was raised in Franklin Park and is now a dueling piano bar player based in Chicago. She is accomplished and well known in the piano industry as well as the Chicago music scene.She has spent the last ten years professionally performing shows for clients all over the world. She is now the music director at The Redhead Piano Bar in downtown Chicago. Kaleen has recently begun performing at local libraries, and has been published in the American Library Association's Programming Librarian website. Join us to hear Kaleen play the piano and sing your favorites.
