Education Services Coordinator

pay rate: $21.23 - $23.59 per hour; generous paid benefit package including enrollment in IMRF pension plan

hours: 37.50 hours per week - Day, Evening, and Weekend Hours including one Sunday per month. (Sunday hours are paid at time and a half)

job summary: Responsible for the performance of professional library duties in achieving the goals of the department. Promotes reading for knowledge and recreation. Provides information services to children, their parents, and those who work with children. Assists non-professional staff in reaching department goals.

job duties:

• Coordinates in person and online education services for the youth department
• Develops and implements library programs and other services, which fulfill the diverse educational, recreational and personal needs of children both in the library and in the community
• Works directly with Department Director on staff training and meetings, personnel, budget, and department planning
• Executes collection development in YS areas in coordination with the Department Director
• Recommends and selects materials for circulation in Teacher Bags
• Compiles and distributes teacher information packets to promote school services
• Maintains a working relationship with resource center directors, teachers and other school staff
• Coordinates the school delivery service via the District 15 van

education and experience: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school or substantial steps toward completion of degree and equivalent experience. Supervisory experience preferred.

Technical Services Director

pay rate: $70,000 - $85,000 (DOQ); Position includes generous paid benefits including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) System.

hours: 37.5 hours per week - Mostly daytime hours. May include occasional evening or weekend shifts.

Job summary: Oversees all functions of the Technical Services Department and ensures the successful function of the Sierra integrated library system (ILS) and the peripheral applications which support or depend upon the ILS’s functions and services. Directly supervises the Assistant Director of Technical Services, Technical Services Associates, and AV Assistant.

job duties:

• Oversees and supports acquisitions, cataloging, processing, and other functions.
• Contributes original and copy cataloging and guides the cataloging work of others in accordance with national standards of materials description and access-point creation.
• Supports acquisitions functions by daily running of the purchase order posting process in Sierra.
• Serves as administrator of the Library’s accounts, settings, and preferences on materials vendors’ web portals.
• Configures all modules of the Sierra system using acquired knowledge or by seeking technical support from Innovative Interfaces.
• Ensures optimal function of the public-access catalog(s) by utilizing all available tools (administration portals, support requests, etc.) to provide user-friendly experiences to library patrons.
• When feasible, makes use of the Sierra SQL queries to support database content analysis, ensure optimal application function, or to produce reports for detailed analysis of library materials holdings and their use.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

education and experience: Master of Library Science (MLS) degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Three to five years of supervisory experience required; Two years of experience in using and/or configuring Innovative Interfaces’ Sierra ILS, or other similar system; Must have a working knowledge of OCLC Connexion client software, Innovative Interfaces applications, MARC, RDA cataloging standards, and the Dewey Decimal System.

Youth Services Associate

pay rate: $13.75-14.25 per hour; paid benefit time and enrollment in IMRF pension plan

hours: 26 hours per week - Some day, evening, and weekend hours including one Sunday per month.

job summary: The RML Youth Department is filled with creativity, enthusiasm and high quality children’s programing. We are looking for a friendly and innovative individual to join the team encouraging and promoting the youth collection, resources, and library services.

job duties:

• Assist patrons with readers advisory or reference questions by providing recommendations and guidance utilizing print and electronic resources
• Develop and implement library programs and other services, which fulfill the diverse educational, recreational and personal needs of children both in the library and in the community
• Maintain working knowledge of children’s literature, age appropriate trends, and emerging technologies in the library science industry
• Represent the Youth Department at committee meetings, community and library events, as assigned
• Compile bibliographic aids, brochures and displays as assigned

education and experience: Bachelor's degree in early childhood, elementary education, or other related field is preferred; Relevant experience with children and/or libraries; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
